kidney/liver

There is this amazing girl who is waiting for a combined kidney/liver transplant as we speak. She has ARPKD/CHF and is about 19 years old and pretty sick. She had her kidneys removed a few years ago because of chronic pain and has been desperately fighting all of the hospitals to get her a combined transplant. I don’t understand it all but something about her MELD scores (which are the scores you need to be placed high up on the list). For some reason in her hometown they were not giving her high MELD scores because her liver numbers are good.  But they finally got the scores up in another state but missed a transplant because they couldn’t get there fast enough. Now they are there and waiting. What a horrible way to live.  It breaks my heart. And this family is so wonderful.  A very caring mom and a very intelligent daughter.  And essentially they are waiting for someone to die so that their daughter can live.
