I went to this conference today in the city ironically at the Lighthouse (where I used to work). It was a conference given by the Kidney and Urology Foundation. It was for parents of children with CKD (chronic kidney disease). Dr Awesome had told me about it and was there today.  He is just so nice besides being a great nephrologist. The funny thing is that one of the nephrologists who spoke at the PKD Foundation’s Convention in June was also there. It was an interesting day. It really was more about the emotional aspects of raising a child with CKD rather than the physical aspects. I am really glad that I went.

There was this woman who spoke who has written a book about her experiences with CKD. She was very motivational and inspirational and it was good to hear someone like that speak. Her book is called Chronically Happy: Joyful Living In Spite Of Chronic Illness.A lot of the focus was on living your life and having your CKD be a part of your life but not run/rule your world. It made sense.  We had a little round table discussion with other parents and many people talked about their anger and how it is important to go through all of your emotions while dealing with this.

I’m glad I went and am actually not depressed after going.  It was nice being with other parents in the same position that I am in.
